Premature ejaculation (PE), or early ejaculation, is when a man climaxes and has an orgasm during sexual intercourse sooner than he would like.
It is more common than you might think.
Premature ejaculation is actually the most common male sexual complaint, occurring in up to 30% of men (Rosen, R.C., 2000. Prevalence and risk factors of sexual dysfunction in men and women. Current Psychiatry Reports, 2(3), pp.189-195).
The cause of premature ejaculation is not exactly known.
However, several factors can play a part - psychological factors such as poor body image, depression, stress and anxiety, relationship issues; biological factors such as hormone levels, prostate problems.
The good thing to know is that premature ejaculation is a common and treatable condition - treatments can include medicines, counselling and sexual techniques.
