Rationale – STUD 100® Desensitizing Spray for Men

STUD 100 is a desensitizing spray for men containing Lidocaine 9.6% (w/w) in a metered dose pump spray for topical use. It provides surface anaesthesia to the penis for the reduction of tactile sensitivity in the male in advance of intercourse. The medical rationale for the use of this product involves the need to delay ejaculation where it poses a problem of anxiety regarding sexual performance and consequently a reduction in self-confidence. As the female sexual response is usually slower than that of the male, a delay in ejaculation benefits both partners. Continued precipitant ejaculation could lead to more serious psycho-physiological problems of premature ejaculation which are more difficult to treat.

There are a number of clinical trials described in our Product Overview* which, taken together, offer convincing evidence of the efficacy of the product. These include a controlled clinical pharmacological test of reduction in sensitivity of the penis after application, delay in masturbation time and continued use of the products over several years. The safety of the product has been demonstrated by clinical trials covering absorption, irritation and sensitisation potential, as well as the in-use evidence from over 25 years of marketing.

STUD 100 is licensed by the MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency) in the UK (UK License Number PL/2294/5000R), and meets all the requirements of the monograph on Male Genital Desensitizers set out by the FDA in the USA. It is fast acting, safe and effective and produced in the UK under current EU, US and WHO Good Manufacturing Practices.
